1901! With the assasination of president McKinley, the young and vigorous Theodore Roosevelt takes office. The wounds of the civil war are healing, and America is taking it's place as a world power, after handily defeating the spanish in the spanish-american war. Although not as wild as it once was, the west is still a place for adventurous young folks, with its massive herds of buffalo, hidden gold, and less than great law enforcement. Back east, times are changing as inventors like Thomas Edison and Nikola Tesla create marvels of technology.
Some things are slow to change, however. The general public prefers the old ways, so when a person with unusual gifts comes along, they are not welcomed with open arms. For power users, the choice is to keep quiet, or wind up at the end of a rope. And thats just the begining of their problems. An ancient cult that has long been dormant has taken notice of the increasing population of power users. They believe the users are a form of demon that has come to assimilate humans into their species. And the devoted members are prepared to use any means necesesary to hunt down and destroy the demons.
Fotunately, most people are content to mind their own buisness unless provoked. Wolves, Grizzlies, and cougars are still common in the continential states. Women cannot yet vote. Electricity is not common in most homes yet. Alaska, Arizona, Hawaii, Oklahoma, and New Mexico are not yet states. Times are changing, and all must be prepared to adapt.
