November 21st, 2014 Friday - 0700 Hours
The snow covered forest floor shuddered upon the impact that sent a plume of powder skywards, the birds in the area took sudden flight and called out their anger at the ones who disturbed them. Joshua levitated down from the tree top he had been standing on to land at the edge of the medium sized crater that scarred the once pristine land, his brows furrowed at the lack of his target and his stance shifted to defend himself. The sudden wave of energy slammed into his back to send him into the side of an Aspen, the combined force of the impact and his own shield cracked the tree into two. He quickly got back to his feet and whipped his head up sharply looking for his opponent, the man in question stepped from behind a large oak "Pretty damn good for a kid, i really wish that it didnt have to come to this but hey...$20 million is a nice chunk of change. Do you think your man is going to miss his whore, or does this present him with an opportunity to trade in for a newer model?" The man known as Jericho stood with his back against the oak he had hidden behind and bore his gaze into Joshua, his would be killer had been sent out by some faction working with the government that had no qualms of using power users against their own kind.
Joshua had been sent out to rendezvous with one of their informants within the government and find out what their next course of action would be, the trail had ended abruptly a mile back at the bottom of a deep ravine. Their informant had been shot in the head and thrown down for the wolves to have at him, in his place was Jericho Miller who in his spare time acted as hired gun for the government. His eyes had widened at the other man and before he knew it they were trading blasts of telekinetic energy, the force behind each subsequent attack becoming stronger as the battle waged on. Now as he wiped off some blood from his lip, Joshua could feel the strain within Jericho's mind that came with the over use of powers in someone not born with them. "I can't believe they sent out a god damned 'sponge' after me, too pathetic in your former life that you willingly let them play god with your DNA to make you into this?" He had taken to calling humans who were implanted with powers as 'sponges' since they never lasted long if you over used them. "You're fucking sad if you truly thought you had any chance of taking me down Jericho, i'm not the one limited by inferior DNA nor do i have to struggle with managing my core. I'm tired of being hunted down like some shitty criminal just because i happen to be on the side that's trying to bring the real criminals to justice, you my poor man are nothing but a fucked up experiment."
The wind kicked up quickly and started to rip branches off of the trees surrounding them, the snow had been blasted away to reveal the ground beneath thew intery layer. His power was visibly leaking out of his body and lashed out at the world like whips, the energy was the main culprit for the shift in the wind and to anyone else the worst was yet to come. It started with a cut against Jericho's forehead that gave way to more cuts across different areas of the man's body, the weight of the air grew suddenly heavy as an invisible energy wave slammed into the other man. Joshua's powers ripped apart his attacker down to the very molecules that made up his body, when the wind settled to a calm all that remained of Jericho was a large crimson spray against the snow where he once stood. "The reason no one will ever match my exact powers is because the force behind them requires perfect mind control over them or else they ravage the body from within, few ever make it to half of what i can do since the rest either killed themselves to be rid of the pain. Or it simply ripped them apart like i just did to you Jericho. Wherever you may be at right now, know that it was not my wish to kill you nor did i enjoy it. May you be at rest and the ones who lied to you strung up by their balls."
Joshua sighed heavily and collapsed on the ground, there were some limits to his own powers that depended on his state of mind. His powers were unfortunately ruled by emotions, and unless he took control of the more fluid ones like anger he would never truly reach full potential. As the heavens opened up and let the snow fall, his shield flared up weakly to keep his body untouched by the frozen touch of the white powder. It would take another 16 hours until someone check in on his position with no contact having been established on his own, until then he put his life in the hands of fate.

Rye lied down in the snow naked and enjoyed the cool snow. His body was hotter than a normal humans and he was able to standing cold temperatures to a degree. He smiled as a rabbit hopped next to him. He started to hum a song that made the rabbit come closer to him and snuggled up to Rye for warmth. "Hello my little friend." Rye said in a soft soothing voice that put animals to ease. He reached over and petted the little rabbit on the head. Making contact giving him the rabbits gifts when he needed. He had already had the talent of jack rabbit which he found more useful, but who knows he may need to hide as house pet some day.
Ryes ears perked and the rabbit jumped and scurried away. A flock of birds came his way in fright. Something was going on in the forest, bears usually hibernate in the winter so it couldn't be that. Rye popped up and started to run toward where the birds had flown from.
"What should I turn into a wolf? No too intimidating if backpackers. Bird? no too weak right now. Well looks like it back to being the mutt." he murmered to himself as his caramel skin started to sprout black fur. His legs started to turn into hind legs and his face stretched out into a snout. He got on his hands without breaking his sprint as a tail sprouted out of his tail bone. It was a few more steps until he was completely a dog.
Rye slowed down and crept behind a bush slowly he saw a young man talking to a man something like Jericho or Sponge, he didn't know which. Rye focused his listening to hear wha the two were saying. A scuffle broke out and the one sponge named Jericho exploded in the snow. Rye could not believe his eyes. He saw the young man collapse in the snow. Rye slowly crept out of the bushes and toward the young man.

Joshua's shield flared lightly at the presence of the new individual and as if independent from the telekinetic it scanned for any sign of a threat, as if finding the presence to be acceptable it flared once more to melt the snow around the boy. Now that his shield was no longer in place it became quickly apparent to the unconscious man that if he didnt wake soon there would be no more moonlit nights in his future. "Owww!" he moaned softly into the chill air as his eyelids opened tentatively to te harsh light of day, and with a swiftness the memories crashed down upon him forcing a whimper from him. His mind ached for some perscription strength Motrin since it felt as if it had been hit by a mack truck "Oh yeah, now i remember what happened to Jericho. Asshole..." Joshua struggled to his knees and fell back on his ass with a pain filled groan, his jade coloured eyes glanced at his watch checking the time and wondered how the hell he hadn't gone into hypothermia or something. A slight movement out of the corner of his eyes brought him to his feet quickly making his head swim with dizzyness, once his mind settled down he finally took in the sight of the black dog in front of him. It seemed to have fared a lot better in the snow than he had and with no tags there wasn't a clue if he belonged to someone "Hello there."
Joshua shakily stepped closer to the dog and gracefully sank to his knees, his right hand extended out in front of him asking for the animal to trust him. Growing up in his family had meant there were no animals period and any request to get a cat or dog was met with quick dissaproval, life with Levi was no different but for reasons of safety for the animal more than anything else. His lips turned upward flashing his million dollar smile hoping that he wasn't bleeding or something, he wasn't sure he'd approach someone with a bleeding wound at all. "I hope you didn't see what i did to that guy, but in my defense he was trying to kill me at the time and i for one don't feel like dying anytime soon. I have no clue why i'm talking to a dog yet i can't shake the feeling that you understad on some level, probably reading facial expressions and the inflection on certain words would tell you what someone was feeling. Or you know...some weird dog power?" Joshua giggled slightly and coughed to cover the fact that he had done so, it was endearing to most people but there was just something in the air that had him more self-conscious that any other time he could remember.

Rye crept closer and let the young man touch his head. He scratched his head very gently. He listened to young man's words. He saw a kindness in his eyes. Rye knows looks and expressions by instinct. He felt this was someone he could trust. On a more important note it seemed this man had special abilities just like him. Maybe he wouldn't have to hide away anymore. Or keep his secret from people.
He made eye contact with the young man and thought, "Wait until he sees this." Rye's black fur started to enter back into his body his face scrunched up leaving a nose instead of a big wet snout. Hi tail entered his body and his paws became little digits of fingers and toes. A few moments passed before Rye was in human naked form and stared at the young man's eye's. He smiled at him, "Hello, I just wanted to let you know from a dogs perspective you have very soft hands. My name is Rye" Rye stuck out his unfurry hand.

Joshua's eyes widened at the evidently human features shift into place as all canine attributes bled away leaving a very naked man in front of him, his eyes automatically shifted lower and quickly returned back to the man's gaze. "Wow!" he said out loud and promptly stood up to come up short to the taller man, it seemed that he would never get the advantage of looked down when it came to other men. "Sorry, but you seem to have me at a disadvantage since this was no where on my list of possibilities when it came to you...well dog you. If my eyes wander don't freak out since it's bound to happen when a really gorgeous man is standing naked in front of me, especially one who likes my sofy hands." Luckily for Joshua the light blush on his cheeks was covered up due to the cold air that had already turned his face a nice dusty rose colour. Now that he knew the man was like him in regards to having powers, it made interacting with him much more easier and left a lot of paths open to both of them.
He wanted to know every aspect of the man's power from it's limits to what triggered its onset, he had been working a theory of extreme stress or fluid emotion that allowed for a person's ability to shine through and this could add proof to it. Joshua took the proferred hand and shook it softly, he held the hand in his smaller one looking it over for any signs of the canine features from before "Does it hurt to shft from dog to human and do you have any other forms? Is your human self a kind of intermediary between forms that you have to shift to in order to change to the next, or can you go from one to the next? And i just realized that i am asking all of these personal questions when we've just barely met, i'm Joshua and it's really nice to meet you." His cheeks darkened further forcing him to let the other man's hand go when it dawned on him that he still held onto it, the man's mind gave no indication that he was anything other than straight so it was just him acting like a shameless flirt. Joshua stepped back a foot and settled himself, the crimson stain where Jericho once stood was now barely visible from the newly fallen snow and he was glad that sign of what happened would be erased soon.

Rye smiled, " I'm sorry about startling you it's just I've never met someone else like me before. Well not like like me but someone with abilities.Oh and not a problem about the crouch thing. The only person who is comfortable with my nudity besides my self and animals is my adoptive father...in a not perverted way he knows my secret. But, I have a backpack with my pants back where I was laying down. If you'd like I can run back there." Rye felt Joshua's temperature rise and heart quicken, sexual arousal. Joshua was either gay or Rye looked like a very feminine man. Think he'd stick with the first one. Rye was not uncomfortable with his deduction and was very interested in the boy. What he could do. Did he just make people explode?
"Well Follow me to my pants and I'll answer questions for you best I can." Rye shook Joshua's hand he smiled. Rye then turned around and walked slowly keeping pace with Joshua he was side by side with him. "It's only a few yards from here. But onto the dog thing, I can turn into a couple of different animals. I can turn into a great hand full of woodland creatures, at least the ones useful to defending my self or hiding." Rye scratched his head and thought, "I haven't quite tried shifting from one animal to another because I might turn into a freaky hybrid and I don't know some organs or fluids might not agree with one another. It's human to animal. I mean it doesn't take too long. Especially if I'm angry."
Rye and Joshua arrived to a little snow angel esque print in the snow where Rye had laid moments before he ran. Rye reached behind a bush and pulled out a small back pack. and put on a pair of black jeans. "There no more naked wild man. So what about you what can you do? Just blow people up? Melt toasters?" he grinned, He pulled out a black and mild from his front zipper and looked at Joshua, "Do you mind if I smoke? Native American man need tobacco." he joked at the last statement.

Joshua would have protested the man putting on his jeans but knew there was no way that could come off as anything but pervy, the memory would have to do then. His head titled to the side as he looked at the man's expressive face and took in all that he was being told, it was fascinating to see something so new firsthand as he was and he would do nothing to change it. "Smokem peace pipe? I have a minute trace a Native American blood in me that i can't really be considered a part of any group, i'm just Joshua." It was now his turn to share all that he was to someone he had just met, the last time he had done so was with Levi and that had been due to the feeling of 'rightness' they had both felt at the time. He waved an okay for Rye to smoke in front of him knowing that it would give him some time to collect his thoughts, there was just some things that he would never share. "As cool as melting toasters would be if that were my power, i'm afraid it really isn't as flashy as those examples. Simply put i am a telekinetic/telepath combo, i can move things with only a suggestion from my mind and i can read anyone's thoughts to a certain degree."
He could tell that he had unsettled Rye with the mind reading thing and held up a hand pleading for the man to hear him out first, this was something that always seemed to bite him in the ass when people heard that he could find out anything about them. "I don't like to invade a person's mind unless it's life and death, to me it's no better than rape if i were to force my way past a person's barriers to find out all their secrets. Aside from that i can influence a person into doing whatever i want them to do, thought what you might have seen with Jericho was telekinesis...i used my powers to tear away at his molecular structure. Unfortunately my body kind of said F that. which lead to me passing out." Joshua had always thought that his powers were something of a curse due to the constant control he had to wield over his powers if he didnt want it to lash out and kill those around him. It was odd that his powers seemed to find some ease when around Rye and for that he was grateful to have met the man "Your powers on the other hand are simply magnificent, that kind of freedom of letting yourself go and letting baser emotions have most of the control. I wonder what it was like to have found out you could shift like you do for the first time, probably scary i would imagine. And i didn't mind the nakedness, it was easier to relax around someone who was so relaxed themselves in their own body and sure it was pretty nice to look at every now and then." He laughed softly and ran hs fingers through his own long hair, he was due to check in soon and hoped that wouldn't raise any red flags with Rye. There was just too much to learn to have this all jeopardized for some rules.

Rye lit his cigar and puffed. The wine scent crept into his nose. He listened to Joshua and his remarkable ability. He thought if there was him and Joshua, there had to be more people like them! Maybe there was a girl like him out there. Maybe he wouldn't feel alone anymore. He smiled at the thought.
"So are there more out there like us? Good guys and bad guys? that kind of thing? You look cold by the way how about we go into town I could go for something to snack on." Rye reached in and pulled out a black v-neck t-shirt. He pulled his hair back into a ponytail and slung his back pack on his shoulders. "Any good joints around here for some snackages?" he asked Joshua as he pulled his boots out and started to slip them on.

He could only wonder how someone could have no indication of the state of the world and the 'threat' that the power users posed, it was all over the news and left no place that hadn't heard of what was going on. Joshua knew that in Rye's case he would have seperated himself from the rest of humanity in order to save himself from their ridicule, not knowing that he wasn't alone and that there were others like him forced the man to live alone. "We're not alone, you and i are only two of hundreds of thousands of people just like us around the world. Why i even live in a community on Alcatraz composed solely of power users and then you have small hidden settlements throughout the United States and Alaska." His hesitancy to explain that there were indeed good and bad guys on either side should have given him away if Rye knew what to look for, there was no way that he could sugar coat what was going on if Rye was going to survive in these times. Hopefully Levi would not come off as some kind of terrorist tyrant like the government portrayed him as, and that Rye would come to see that their plan was the best hope for all power users.
"You have to understand that a lot of people don't take kindly to any power user no matter how peaceful their power may be, since our kind was thrust into the spotlight 5 years ago it has been a neverending fight to stay alive. We're hunted down sometimes and sometimes we are only asked to register ourselves with the government and left alone for the most part, i'm one of the 'hunted down' since i work with Levi and support his plan to give power users their justice. I have heard of some other guy who's been spouting talks of living alongside normal humans, but it's nothing more than hope for some outlandish Utopia." Joshua had indicated that there was a road a mile from their position that would lead them into town with a diner another 5 miles from there, he had walked further when he had worked with MacArthur Enterprises during the missions to capture 'rogue' power users. They were making great time and had reached the road quicker than he probably had realized, "Then you have smaller factions within the government that works alongside it in order to meet their own agenda, i know of a shadow organization and MacArthur Enterprises that both fit that mold. The intel i have received on the shadow organization is shakey at best so i can't really trust it wholely, MacArthur on the other hand is something i know quite well and they wont stop until they have perfected their gene manipulation techniques. If you hear the name Liam MacArthur i want you to run and get the hell out of Dodge, he is no joke and if he's gunning for you then he will never stop." They had finally reached the town and he could feel the sudden stares coming their way, two strangers both male would draw the unwelcomed attention and raise many questions. He could see the diner and pointed it out to Rye while remaining the quintessential form of stoicness to hide just how nervous he was, if the people in the town thought they had anything to do with power users they would not hesitate to call the military. "Here we are!"

Rye absorbed all of the knowledge he had just heard. The government after his kind? It was a good thing he was hiding it from the world.Rye was interested in meeting this Levi person and wondered what he could do. He got a excited feeling in his gut. He knew something exciting was going to come his way and he could not wait.
Rye's ears perked and he heard Joshuas heart beat speed up like when one is nervous. Rye opened the door for Joshua and scanned the outside perimeter and inhaled. He could usually smell something out of the ordinary like gun powder or something else that explodes. Nothing out of the ordinary.
Rye and Joshua were shown to their table. They got a seat by a window and Rye looked outside and looked at the clouds. He sighed, he liked being outside but he thought it would be a better idea to say inside if Joshua was nervous. He opened his menu and looked for something to eat. "Hmmmmm. What are you going to eat?" he asked Josh as he studied the food.

Joshua sat still in the booth willing his temper to calm itself unless he wanted to end up locked up in some military holding cell or worse dead, some people from outside had followed them inside the diner sitting close to their location. He could hear their thoughts loud and clear, they had them pegged as either one of those no good power users or simply a pair of faggot boyfriends. Apparently a pretty boy like himself had lips made for certain things that turned his stomach when assaulted with images of that act with those men "Perverts!" he muttered under his breath for only Rye to hear. There was also something else at the back of his mind that told him to look further into these people's minds for a certain thought, his attention equally divided between this act and the conversation he was having with Rye "Probably a cheeseburger and a Pepsi, but knowing that no one ever carries Pepsi i'll settle for a Lemonade and hope the cook doesn't hear that it's our food he's cooking. Sorry i'm making you eat inside instead of outside, i get the whole wide open spaces versus confined and if it's any consolation i appreciate you going along with me." He gave Rye a warm smile which earned then a series of muffled chuckled from the tabled next to them, his jade coloured eyes flashed to black so quickly that it could have been mistaken for a trick of lighting. Joshua twitched his right index finger slightly and caused the man's beer to explode out of the bottle into the man's face, his friends momentarily forgot about the two of them and proceeded to laugh their asses off at the other man's misfortune.
"And now i remember why i enjoy doing what i can, it's always the little joys that keeps me sane and not wondering what i'm doing with my life. Anyways, what are you going to order? Also just between us...if you could turn into a cow would that put you off beef?" He said the last question barely above a whisper for only themselves to hear, his eyes held genuine wonder in them and he hoped that this line of questioning wouldn't put the guy in an awkward spot. Joshua was about to tell Rye to forget that last part when his mind screamed at him to focus solely on what it had found out, on the western edge of the town at the opposite of their location a young boy had alerted his father to the 'mutie freaks' that had walked into town. As he and Rye sat in their booth, the man was on the phone with the local law in town and giving their descriptions from what the boy had seen. His inner mind's sole focus now was on the sheriff and his deputies, if he could convince them no one had called long enough without someone intefering he and Rye would leave the town unscathed. "Mmm pie!"

Rye smiled and replied softly, " Well I'm a vegetarian. I can't turn into a cow right now.I haven't touched one. Besides I wouldn't be a cow. I'd be a deer much faster and smarter. I've had some pretty interesting conversation with deer." Rye's ears perked and listened to the guys behind them. His knuckles popped as he balled his hand into a fist. He hated people making fun of other whether it be sexual orientation, race, or anything."Do you want me to take care of them?"
The waitress came up to the two Rye's anger lessened and he put on a friendly face for the waitress. He ordered, "Can I just get like a glass of water a plate full of raw broccoli?" Rye looked and shrugged, "I'm a vegetarian. It's a lifestyle." Rye overheard the men in the back whisper to each other, " Not the only lifestyle he's in. Pfff fag." Rye's face turned red with anger.

Joshua silently urged Rye not to do anything to provoke those guys any further, not that they were in any way defenseless when it came to small minded assholes but it would lead to the law getting involved which would then escalate until the military had to intervene. They would move in swiftly if they had any inkling that power users were causing any problems and that was a fight he would wish to avoid, for one they were under direct orders not to engage the government directly nor endanger an innocent. In this case Rye. "If you want to eat somewhere else or find some place that doesn't have...such thrilling entertainment i'd understand. I don't want you to get into trouble just because they're being ignorant and i sure the hell don't want to show you to Levi all banged up. Not that you'd get pretty hurt since you look like you could snap someone's wrist just by holding it tightly, so let's just try to ignore them and if it doesn't work i'll...i don't know...make them forget how to pee or something." His lips turned up into another warm smile that grew larger when the waitress brought their drinks out, he had been craving some really good lemonade and he was not dissappointed at all. Joshua glanced out the window as he took a sip from his drink to watch the snow fall once again, it never snowed on Alcatraz and so he took every opportunity to head to a state that had snow when he could.
He fidgeted in his seat and excused himself to go to the restroom, he'd been holding the urge to use the urinal since he had woken up in the woods and the lemonade had finally pushed him to the limit of his control. Joshua had just flushed the urinal when he was pulled from behind and into a stall, his powers flared sharply causing one of the sinks to shatter and the mirror above it to spiderweb. His assailant threw him headfirst into the tiled wall causing him to lose his focus on what was going on "I could see it in your eyes from the moment you sat down." the man said into his ear and it barely registered as his head swam from the impact. "I could see you gagging for it with that man you were with and i said to myself, 'Well if his friend isn't going to give that pretty mouth something to enjoy, then who am i to deny such a chance?' So here we are and now i'm gonna give you what you want." Joshua gritted his teeth forcing his mind to shut the hell up and focus once more, his head whipped up and with his telekinesis sent the man hurtling across the restroom to hit the wall hard enough to leave a small dent. His attacker slumped to the floor leaving a trail of blood and grey matter on the wall, Joshua shuddered slightly and retched into the toilet next to him. Outside in the diner his friends and most of the customers ignored the sound of the small impact knowing what they thought was happening to the feminate looking man, some looked at the man's friend wondering how he'd react.

The waitress came with Rye's plate of broccoli when Joshua left for the bathroom. He munched on the florets quite vigorously. He hadn't eaten since he flew down to North Dakota. Rye kept hearing snickers from the back table. Rye's ears perked when he started to hear voices from the bathroom. He knuckled popped once again. Rye then took a small black rubber band from his pocket and tied his hair back into a tight ponytail. He looked over at his waitress who was coming with another glass of water for him. He looked at her for the first and noticed how attractive she was. She had fair creme skin, glasses, and her hair in a bun. She walked up and he smiled at her in and payed attention to her. "You know you're very beautiful, and regardless of what those men behind me say, I am very much into women. Especially beautiful such as yourself." he smiled.
There was a bang in the bathroom. Rye smiled at her and said in a silky voice, " Now if you excuse me I have some trash to take out." Rye stood up and turned around and noticed one of the men from the table was missing. He slowly walked up to the table, "Hello. my friend has been gone for some time. Would fellows know anything about that?" The biggest one chortled, "Probably getting the fag beat out of him. You're ne-" he could finish his sentence becaase he face was breaking through the wooden table. Rye pushed off of his arm and swung his body around and kicked the man next to him down. Rye landed on his feet and called to Joshua in the bathroom, "You okay man?!"

Joshua stood up shakily and walked over to the only other working sing in the restroom, the other had died unortunately when his powers reacted wildly during the attack on him. He looked over at the man slumped on the floor and did a quick check on his mind looking for any signs of life, unfortunately the man would live and recover from the blow to his head. His eyes glanced up at the mirror in front of him and noticed the bruise that had formed on his forehead which would no doubt earn him zero missions for months once Levi saw the damage, "As if i asked to get manhandled by the local homophobic pervert, but no he's just going to overreact and get all possessive and crap." Turning off the faucet he sighed once and walked out the door into utter chaos, he had heard Rye call to him as he reached for the door knob and hoped to God that there wasn't going to be a problem once he stepped out. Now as he looked on at Rye beating the shit out of two guys and most of the customers screaming, his tentative hold on the law in this town snapped once word reached them from frightened patrons. "What the hell? I almost get raped in Mel's Diner and then i come out to a frickin' Rumble In The Jungle, we need to get the hell out of Dodge right now or we're going to be looking down the barrel of a shotgun pretty soon." No sooner as he urged Rye to listen to him did they hear the unmistakable sound of sirens heading their way, they were only going to have to deal with the local sheriff for now and the longer they stayed the more likely it would be military brass they'd have to fight.
Joshua closed his eyes and focused on all the minds in the Diner save for his and Rye's, with a soft suggestion he put them to sleep for a few short hours that gave them enough time to flee out the back without having to engage 'Andy Griffith' or 'Barney'. "That was really sweet of you to get all grrr with his friends and let me tell you that asshole unconscious i the restroom deserved to get his head cracked, but now we have to run. There's an old cottage deep in the woods about 10 miles due east from our current location, the people who are going to pick me up know it to be a secondary site and will look for us there when they realize what happened here." He had began to make his way to the back door as he told Rye his plan and hoped the man would trust him just a little while longer, if it all worked out then they'd have someone new joinging them on Alcatraz and more than likely sign up for the various missions they sometimes had. "Damn it's locked!" he said before flicking his wrist and exploding the padlock into a million little dust particles. [/size]
