Dane finished scribbling the letter down and sealed it. slipping it into the post-box he prayed that no-one who wasn't meant to read it would pick it up. The envelope contained a ring deadly to 'normal's and a letter for a very specific person, someone who saved a friends life a long time ago. Dear Miss Beauchamp. My name is Mythalda from the international chocolate federation. I would like to congradulate you on your membership of 10 years and would like to present you with a courtesy ring as thanks for your outstanding loyalty. I have also included the rows of data you requested, if you have any problems please don't hesitate to call, you have our number. 6999 0662 6330 4447 7770 3266 3310 4440 9266 8086 6604 4335 5571 0844 4447 7770 7774 4466 4094 4455 5555 0933 2553 3660 9996 6688 7770 7666 9337 7703 3377 7666 6038 8777 5508 6660 3296 6104 4666 9338 8833 7770 6666 2223 3099 9666 8807 8880 4448 0666 6606 4480 2222 6606 6338 8833 7770 2233 0777 3366 6688 8333 the ring was a plain silver with arabic script scralled on the inside. ***** November 14 2009 As the oblivious postman continued his rounds he dropped the weighted envelope on the doormat of a quaint atlantan chocolate shop. OOC: there, forward 1 week. It'd be a short thread, don't want to hold you up too much from your other threads

Roxanne looked up from her counter as the early postman dropped something at her doorstep. Slightly bewildered since she hadn't ordered anything lately she stopped cleaning the glass counter top and moved around the display case, wiping her hands on her black apron. She kept her gaze on the package as she unlocked the door and picked it up.
It wasn't heavy, in fact she might have thought it empty if it weren't for something rattling around in it. She looked around curiously before returning to her shop. As she made her back back over the the counter she tore open the packaging and pulled out a small ring. It wasn't anything special. In fact it wasn't unlike the rings she wore on her finger now.
Slowly, she placed the ring on the glass counter and rechecked the package to make sure her name was on it. "Roxanne Beauchamp"; there it was. The address was even correct. Flipping the package over she noticed something out of the corner of her eye. A slip of paper floating the the floor. Bending over she picked up the sealed envelope. It too was addressed to her. Even more curious now she placed the box on the counter along with the ring and tore open the letter.
"International Chocolate Federation." she read out loud. "Ten years of membership...quelle un peu plaisanterie est ceci.*" She made her way back around the counter staring at the long list of numbers on the page. There was no way that was a phone number. If it was, there was no telling who was on the other side and she had no idea how to even deal with figuring out the code.
As the bell to her shop rang letting her know she had company she quickly removed the package slipping the letter and ring back inside it and smiled to greet her customers.
*What kind of joke is this.
[OOC: It's fine. Sorry to ask this of you, but could you possibly move the date for this. Roxanne is in a thread with Joshua on the 7th, and if we are going to have them meet the dates coinciding is a little inconvenient.]

Dane stepped into the chocolate shop. Dressed in a pair of jeans and a jacket that he had not worn in quite some time. As he saw the woman stuff the parcel away he wondered just how slow the postal service was, should have been here quite some time ago.
"Well thats a nervous and unnerving grin you have on there madam. I'd be downright creeped out if i wasn't so curious" he said with a chuckle in his voice. "you look you've been busy lately? with all the military I bet you've have tons of customers" His sarcasm was only slight but detectable. He leant on the bench and smiled genuinely, checking the girls face for any sign that it was safe to proceed. he had to be quick though. he just wanted to check on her and then he'd have to go in search of those few others. he needed permission before he could continue. "So, chocolate, chocolate" he arched his back as he scanned the display for anything good "what would you suggest?"

Roxanne's smile faltered a bit as he spoke. She didn't think that her smiled could be considered creepy. Not that she was one to be the judge of her own self but one's smile is something that all people can fairly assess. However she had been caught a bit off guard from the mysterious package. His comment about the military didn't slip past her and although her smile didn't slip from her lips it did fade a bit from her eyes.
"I get plenty of business despite the military in the city. In fact most of my more regular customers are military." she said nonchalantly.
Relieved when he finally moved on to looking at the chocolates. She looked down through the counter when he asked for her suggestion. Using her powers voluntarily was like opening a door in her mind which allowed her to slip ever so slightly into her sub conscious. What was going on in her head hardly showed on the outside and years of practice had made it easier to do this. That was where her power actually lay, in the sub conscious and in order to use her powers her mind needed access to it more readily than the average human mind. The strength of her power rested in how far she was into that "door".
White spots appeared before her eyes and she felt herself almost drained of energy. It only took her a few seconds for the events to unfold and she looked back up at the man and stepped back from the counter. She removed a small white plate from the shelf behind her and kneeing down in front of the open display case she removed several pieces of delicately formed white chocolate seashells from the bottom shelf. The bottom shelf was usually reserved for the caffeine and sugar free chocolate which she carried for diabetics and overactive children.
Moving the plate towards him she smiled softly. "Here you are, try this, it's your favorite."

"I know, knew a fw folks in the army a few years back, they love the fact that chocolate is so cheap when they're on assignment". Dane watched as she looked down into the case. Grinning he watched as her pupils whitened slightly. When she put the shells on the counter he chuckled quietly to himself "I bet they are mi-lady" he noted the price as he took a bite out of a single piece. gagging he pretended to spit it out before flicking his wallet out. he counted the chocolates she had shown him and layed out enough for every single one of them, the grin on his face only rivaled by the cheshire cat. "Your very good at what you do, I must say. But you gotta work on it a little more. Your eyes dart too fast and give away your trick" his habit of gesturing every word forced itself onto him when he said little, but he recollected his composure. "Name's Dane, and no, I won't call the cops on you. Thats contraditory." he held his hand out to her, grin on his face unfaltered.

Her eyes widened and she took a few steps back as he gagged and seemed to spit out the chocolate. It was possible she had been wrong, but doubtful. She was ever more confused when he placed money on the counter and commented on her "gift".
The smile faded from her face as she looked from his hand back up to his face suspicion clouding her face. As she spoke her french accent showed a little heavier in her speech as it usually did when she was nervous.
"Pardon moi?" she commented slightly bewildered as she tentatively stretched out to take his hand. "Roxanne Beauchamp." she looked down at the chocolate on the counter before looking back up at him. "Um, what business do you have with me Monsieur Dane and HOW do you know about me..."
Why hadn't she seen this. She had taken very cautious steps to cover her tracks, there was no way the government could have followed her. The only other people who knew about her were the remnants of her family and Kuro. She didn't think Kuro would have betrayed her trust, he didn't seem like that kind of person.

She had taken the bait, grabbed his hand. he was expecting a shock but this was indeed something. she had such marvellous potential! but the downside, he was right about the nightmares.
He smiled when she let go. "Don't worry, no-one gave you up. Some friends of mine have a knack for finding people like us." He glanced toward the door, he didn't want someone walking in just yet. "We are only interested in the well being of the global user population. As such I was wondering if you could help me if i help you? I know about your nightmares..." He held up his right hand as a way of showing how he knew "And if i could make them go away, would you be willing to help me if i called for it?" he grabbed another chocolate, they were delicious.

Her eyes kept trained on his face as he spoke her gaze moving only once to look at the hand he held up. From what she had seen she guess that he could either sense her abilities or read minds which one she wasn't quite sure. Either way, it showed to her that he was like her and put himself at equal risk by exposing himself to her.
"I do suffer from chronic nightmares it's a bit of a side effect from keeping a loose barrier between you and your sub conscious. Although i'm not entirely sure how you could do anything about them and as far as favors go it depends on what you are asking of me. I will not promise to do anything i do not agree with or anything that will hurt someone."

"I would never ask that of you, I wouldn't want to hurt anyone. I'd probably just ask something mundane of you, like the location of a person who's dangerous to themselves or whatever. but i'd only ask 1 thing of you ever." he smiled gingerly, so much had been going his way lately "As for how i could help, the nightmares are caused by your power working while you sleep. that ring you got not 20minutes ago will turn off your power at dusk then back on at dawn. sadly the downside is you could never take it off. It's your choice, I just want to help" He was genuinly concerned about her mental well-being. he didn't want any user to suffer because of their abilities.

When she heard him talk about the ring she looked down at the package on the ground then back up at him. "You?" bending down as she spoke she grabbed the box and placed in on the counter fishing inside for the ring. "You sent this to me? I thought it was a joke..." Looking more closely at the ring she looked back up at him.
"Erm, how does this work, if you don't mind me asking, and why, can't I take it off. Excuse the questions but I am a little hesitant to use something I know nothing about with only the word of someone I have only just met to go on..."

"Yes me." he waited patiently while she serveyed the ring, looking quite attractive in her perplexed state "No no, your right to be cautious, these are dangerous times. I wouldn't trust this obscenely arrogant man if i were in your position, however, you have the capacity to make sure nothing bad will happen to you." he tapped the chocolate tray to explain himself. Without thinking he popped another white shell into his mouth, when finished it he spoke again "Its a type of micro-bacteria threaded into a silver-lattice. Kind of like a living metal, the bateria have the H-gene from one of my associates and are programmed to use it immediately at sundown, and stop at sunset. The tradeoff is that the metal fuses to flesh when there is enough surface area. its a problem i've been working on. This sort of thing is my lifes work, I am trying to find other ways for the bateria to exibit their abilities other than the standard, but have had no luck." he looked at her hopefully, he would be honoured if someone OUTSIDE of haven actually decided to trust him that much. "Tell me if i confused you at all"

Roxanne's eyes widened as he went into his explanation. At least it seemed he did like her chocolate. He had almost finished the pieces she had left on the plate.
"I'm pretty sure you thoroughly confused me. However there is no need to explain again. I think I understand the basic idea." she turned her attention back to the ring her slender eyebrows drawn down in contemplation. It would be nice to not have to worry about the nightmares that plagued her nights. Often she lost sleep for days at a time and when you ran your own business, it wasn't prudent to have to close the shop because you can't keep yourself together.
"I do have just a few more questions though. Just for my ease of mind. What if i wanted to use my power during this time, is it shut off from me completely. If so, what if i am using my power and then this ring activates. My power operates because i'm partly in my subconscious mind. What if i'm still in there and then i can't use my power anymore. Also" she looked slightly uncomfortable looking at the ring remembering how he said the metal fused with flesh "that sounds...kinda painful..."

He could understand her concern, those were his first questions on the subject. "It stops your power activating while the suns down... like locking a door, but if you really wanted you could use it during that time. It's just seperated from the rest of your subconcious. imagine a family pet that you lock in a room at night, same concept. As for the pain, I've heard there isn't any, every person who wears a ring like that says that it feels like an extension of themselves and there is no pain in it connecting" He glanced down at the chocolate and was shocked at how much he had in fact consumed "My apologees, good thing i paid in advance" He chuckled slightly. it didn't seem like she should have any more questions. so he should be on his way. Dane grabbed the rest of the chocolates and headed for the do after bidding the maiden adieu.
