~Powers~
Powers: Lucas has the ability to absorb force, hold it in his body, and then release it. For example, if he was punched, he would not be moved. He could then touch the attacker and deliver all the force of the blow back into them. It only sends energy received back out; he cannot add his own. It requires physical contact to redistribute the energy.
State of Control: good, but cold be better. Since he does not like to use it often, he doesn’t get much practice, and as a result, cannot hold most big forces very long.
Rules Of Your Power: The greater the impact, the harder it is to hold. A punch from a person could be held for several hours, but something like a car impact could only be held momentarily. In addition, Lucas can only absorb a force one at a time, and there is a five second delay in between times he can use it.
~General~
Family Members/Status: Mother and father, Leona and Graham Hobbs. Brother Rick Hobbs. All are alive and well. History: Born July 8, 1986, Lucas was the first son of a local celebrity, his father was the pastor of the biggest church in Irvine at the time. He and Lucas’ mother were known for their constant efforts to make the world a better place, through food drives, the homeless shelter, and support of various charities. Rick was born two years after Lucas. The two were very different in personality, with Lucas being outgoing and Rick being introverted.
They only became close after discovering that they were both power users. Lucas had the more obvious power, but he had been advised by his parents to keep it private, for fear of persecution. Rick had a variety of mental abilities, including weak telekinesis, partial mind reading, but his best power was mental defense, being entirely invulnerable to mental attack.
Things went well for them up until high school, when it became necessary for them to go separate ways socially. They gradually stopped using their powers, and could have almost stopped all together. The only thing they did together was ride home after school, because Lucas had the car. They were riding home, and were in an accident. They were hit from behind by a driver who had been tailing them quite closely. The driver got out and began yelling at Lucas, taunting and cursing him.
But after he threatened his brother, Lucas stepped out of the car. The man immediately decked Lucas in the face, but as if by muscle memory, Lucas absorbed the force of the blow, unflinchingly. He then extended one finger, and poked the man’s jaw, sending him stumbling back. Terrified, he got back in his damaged car and drove off. The incident reminded them that they were not normal.
It was not the end, however. The man knew who the boys were, and he later vandalized the home they lived in. Lucas would learn that the old saying was true, no good deed goes unpunished. It proved true throughout high school. Whether donating to a charity that turned out to be a fraud, or simply petting a stray dog and getting bit, Lucas became cynical, questioning whether his parents were right when it came to morality.
He persevered, however. A breakthrough came one day when he and Rick came across a group of Teens assaulting an elderly man who refused to give up his wallet. The brothers joined the scuffle, and when they seemed to have an edge, several of the attackers revealed claws, flames, and spines. They were power users. Their leader was a psychic who became infuriated by Rick’s resistance. The brothers ended up winning, and the attackers were forced to scurry away.
This led Lucas to believe that although police were vital for most crimes, those committed by power users had to be handled by power users. He and Rick began patrolling the town looking for such events. After high school, they began traveling, working temporary jobs and continuing their assault on user-crime.
“Luke, we ought to look into this,” Rick said, looking over the park bench they sat at. “This article says that a power user has been verified as killing at random, and he’s starting to have followers. This is worse than the one’s that hate non-users, at least they’re predictable. We have to catch this guy.” Luke shook his head. “And do what? We don’t kill people, and we can’t take on an army. Besides, we don’t know anything about his powers, or how to find him.” He knocked the newspaper out of his brother’s hands. Rick picked it back up. “We do what we always do. We ask around, we track him down, beat him up, and then leave him at a police station. Starting with gathering information.” Luke thought for a minute. “It can’t hurt to look into it. And somebody has to deal with it. Police don’t seem to regard him as particularly dangerous, and the guys we’ve busted recently just say he’s nuts. But we can’t afford to give anyone the benefit of the doubt.” They agreed to pursue the criminal, and began gathering information.
Additional Information: The brothers have a blue tongue skink who travels with them and lives in the car. His name is Gigan
